CIIPA'S STORY

Our story begins in 1970, when a small group of pioneers in Cayman's accountancy field formed the Cayman Islands Society of Professional Accountants. Today, with more than 1,000 members, it is one of the largest professional societies in the Cayman Islands.

In 2007, the Public Accountants Law and its associated Regulations ushered in a new era of regulatory oversight of the accounting profession in the Cayman Islands. CIIPA (known as CISPA at the time) was officially incorporated as a Non-Profit in January of that year, and took on the responsibility of licencing accounting practitioners in the Cayman Islands.

Another key milestone was achieved in 2013, when the association became a full member of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC). IFAC is the worldwide organisation representing the accountancy profession.

The Society officially became an Institute in April 2016 during an Extraordinary General Meeting. The change to Cayman Islands Institute of Professional Accountants reflects the regulatory and educational roles the organisation plays in furthering the accounting profession and protecting the reputation of the jurisdiction.
