Cayman Islands Business Environment Update

This one-day business environment update will give participants an update on the business environment in the Cayman Islands with emphasis on the financial services sector with topical regulatory and legal content. 

Speakers:

• Hon. Roy McTaggart, Minister of Finance and Economic Development will provide an overview of the current business environment in the Cayman Islands including, updates on government finances, the beneficial ownership law, revenue collection projects and the future development plans for the country.
• David McGibbon, EY Principal and Nali Shaw, EY Senior Manager will update the audience on the latest in Artificial Intelligence, focusing on the disruption and innovation it is triggering in audit practices.
• Elisabeth Lees, Senior Crown Counsel and RJ Berry, FRA Director will discuss the observation period with the CFATF looking at Cayman's measures in response to the Mutual Evaluation Report recommendations. This session will also cover filing suspicious activity reports and obligations under targeted financial sanctions. 
• Laura Hatfield, Attorney, Solomon Harris will give an overview on the new International Tax Co-Operation ("Economic Substance") Law, 2018 and the associated Regulations and Guidance Notes whilst encouraging some open discussion on the challenges and opportunities it presents. 
• Jan Liebaers, Deputy Ombudsman, Information Rights Division will explain to the audience key concepts, principles, legal bases for processing personal data, and rights of individuals under the new Cayman Islands Data Protection Law ("DPL"), which comes into effect on 30 September 2019.
